Cataloguing and recording the past
This page is here to provide guidance on our cataloguing, recording and collecting practices.
Language and terminology in our collections
Rugby School Archives & Heritage is currently working to catalogue and digitise various parts of its collections and make them accessible via this website.
Throughout our collections there are abbreviations, acronyms, slang terms and Rugby School specific language which may not be used today or has changed in meaning or use by the wider public.
This page offers guidance on abbreviations, acronyms, slang terms and Rugby School specific language. We will continue to update this information as we continue to catalogue and digitise our collections.
- Rugby School Glossary (coming soon)
Our collections are diverse, and span over 450 years of history. We are aware that offensive language and outdated terminology and imagery exist in our records. We are in a unique position where there are no previous catalogue records and will work to make descriptions of our records inclusive and to contextualise the language and terminology used within them.
This does not mean editing any original material or removing collections or records from public access.
Recording our more recent history
While Rugby School has a vast collection of records we know that there are stories missing from the narrative which represent the last 50 years. We want to make sure our collections are as diverse, inclusive and representative as possible. Objects, documents, photographs and many more types of artefacts can help tell the story of Rugby School and its community.
If you are able to contribute by donating original material or duplicate copies from the last 50 years, please contact the archives.
